Just for Today

The Following writings comes from a book entitled “Encouraging Prayers” – by Barbour Publishing, Inc.. It consists of 365 days of prayer verses intended to encourage and inspire us each day. I will include a new scripture Monday through Sunday that we can carry in our hearts throughout the day.

I especially liked this book because it does not suggest we pray only in the morning or just one time a day. It has a prayer for the morning and the evening – a prayer to start our day and a prayer when we retire for the Evening for a peaceful sleep.

Prayer is not just an “as-needed” communion with God, it is a tool we use to keep constant contact with our Father. We pray when we want something from Him for ourselves, for somebody else (intercesional), or just to let Him know we love and thank Him for all He has done for us.

It is my intention to keep this section updated on a daily basis. However, should I miss a day or two, I will catch up when I have access, or remember to update my “Just for Today” column. So stay tuned.

Please, remember that we all needed uplifting to keep us focused and in touch with our spiritual health. This book will help us experience an intimate connection to the heavenly Father at least twice a day for 365 days.

Enjoy your spiritual journey with the peaceful time spent in prayer and come to know just how deeply and tenderly God loves you.

Be blessed!!

Poem For my Dearest Lady

Poem for my Dearest Lady – Lenore

By:  Gary Washington AKA Michael Venegar

TheUncleGary.com

It seems like only yesterday when I was proud and free;

the love I use to share with her without this misery.

I tend to think and often wonder, how her smile was so lively and gay;

but when I really think of it, she was actually made that way.

The love we shared was not so common, as most people like to think;

it was as if my life was incomplete, and she was the missing link.

I remember when I met her in that grand old season spring;

she approached me rather awkwardly, but her beauty was easily seen.

Her eyes seemed to glisten with a sparkle very unique;

and her innocent look of mercy and love was oh so tender and meek.

Her voice was soft as she spoke to me, but ever so plain and clear;

and the words she spoke so gently and mild was of love and of sincere.

We laughed and talked ‘til evening dawned and the sun began to rest;

then I suddenly knew that I was in love a desire I could not repress.

By and by as time ascended, my love for her increased;

happiness filled my everyday life and loneliness had all but ceased.

Lenore was her name this wonderful queen, whose name I’ll never forget;

and cherish forever and even after, that wonderful moment we met.

But one rainy day in the month of May, on the corner of Third and Deschaine;

a store was robbed, a man was killed, and I was to receive the blame.

I was nowhere in sight on this awful night, I explained to my love Lenore;

if I go to jail or that “pit of hell” our love will be no more.

I pleaded my case, oh what a waste when the judge pronounced my guilt;

tears from my eyes brought tears from Lenore and my life began to wilt.

In the first few of my confinement years, she was loyal as one could be;

but slowly and showly she forgot I existed and now I am no longer me.

Well, I’m sleepy now it’s after Ten, I guess I’ll join them in their snore;

and hope tonight I dream again about my love LENORE.

They are the people

They Are the People (Song)

By Gary Washington aka Michael Venegar

The Uncle Gary

VERSE 1

I listen to the breeze as it whizzes by my window

I hear the cries of the one who have no one to listen to them

CHORUS

They are the people who we tend not to see

Why can’t we understand their misery?

Why can’t we hear them crying for us …?

VERSE 2

to take them in our hearts and give them compassion

they need a purpose in life once again and someone to talk to

CHORUS

They are the people who are dying everyday

Why can’t we help them find a better way?

Why can’t we see crying out for us?

BRIDGE

Guns are everywhere, mothers on welfare

Won’t you please look around you and see

Crack is in the streets the children cannot eat

And it’s a shame that we don’t care….

CHORUS

They are the people who are dying everyday

Why can’t we help them find a better way?

Why can’t we see them crying, crying, dying?

The Cartoon

My long journey home

This story is still in the making.

I was born Gary Washington, August 2, 1952.  Now understand, I have no recollection of being in my mother’s womb or coming out and the doctor spanking the breath of life into me.  So I really can’t prove I was even born.  I could have been an alien dropped off on this earth one day somehow winding up with a family.  But seeing that I had to have came out of my mother’s womb, lets begin with that fact.

Our memories as a newborn are faint at best.  In fact, we all differ in when and what we first remember.  Some remember their first Christmas and even a toy or two they got.  Others start at a later age with some event that left a lasting impression.  It’s even harder to correlate the event with the age we were when the event occurred.  But whatever age we were when our memories began, that day, as far as we are concerned, is where our lives here on earth began.

I learned that after two months on this earth, I was adopted.  I have no idea of what any of my family looked like or what they were about.  Were my parents good, wholesome people or drug addicts, alcoholics or criminals? The bottom line is that I remained in the dark on that issue for 65 years.
